Madison shoved her phone in her pocket as she walked towards the practice building. She was glad to be spending some time with Nate, ever since they both became counselors and he started dating the hurricane known as Emma he had sorta been to busy for her. At least he had been spending some time in the hospital with her. She couldn't help it that she was sick but she had stopped her first round of chemo so her real hair was back and she wasn't as sick any more. She had to wait a little while longer to get more tests to see if it went away for good but she still was sickish. It was like a bad flu but she wasn't going to let it get in the way of hanging out with Nate. She missed him, he was her best friend and she really wanted to see how he was doing. She sorta felt like lately everything was all about her and she hated feeling like that because she felt pathetic. She didn’t want Nate to feel bad for her, she didn’t want him to have to worry about her to feel pity or sympathy for her so she just wasn’t going to let anything sickness wise effect her. She was going to be just like she used to be.
She knew that she was a little early but that was ok because she wanted to plan for her classes for tomorrow. She walked into the empty practice room and sat on the stage. She pulled her hair into a pony tail, some ringlets falling down around her face framing it. She was still a pasty pale white; she needed to get some sun back on her skin to get some color. She used to be nice and tan but she had to get back up to that. Spending all the time in the hospital and being sick had made her really thin and really white. She had thankfully gained some weight so she looked almost back to her normal curvy self. She spread some papers out on the ground and set a case in the corner out of view. She wanted to surprise Nate with something. When they were on the way to her first chemo session in the limo he noticed the bracelet that he had made for her was still on her wrist. She never took it off but it was getting old and tattered and they both agreed that it would be fun to make new ones. So she grabbed a bracelet making kit a bunch of pictures and other little things from when they were kids that he would laugh about.
She slipped her black rimmed glasses on and started writing some things that she wanted to do in her next classes down on planning sheets so she could have Brown ok them so she could do them. This just seemed so boring and repetitive to her at the moment. She was so in the mood to have some fun. She rolled over on her stomach and tugged her phone out of her pocket and flipped threw the texts. When ever she saw Nate’s name it just made her smile and it made her heart jump. She honestly didn’t know where she would be with out Nate in her life. She loved him, as a friend and more then that she just wasn’t sure if he did. Sure they had kissed and it was the most powerful and meaningful kiss that she had ever experienced in her entire life but she wanted to know how he felt. For her it was an inside melting heart stopping toe curling kiss. The kinds that you would see in movies and fire works would go off and cute music would start to play. That was how she felt every time she was with Nate. When they hung out it was fun, they never fought and they just knew what they both liked and disliked so they were able to get along perfectly. She wanted to be able to be with him more but with Emma in the way she would just try to make him realize how bad she was for him. Emma was a bad influence to be around, she knew that Nate and Emma always got in fights but weren’t relationships supposed to be full of love and understanding? She sighed and tugged the case open and took some pictures out of her and Nate and started flipping threw them laughing at some as she waited for Nate to show up. She missed all the good times.

I don't know where I'd be without you here with me
life with you makes perfect sense you're my best friend --------------------- was all he said before looking around at the old pictures and arts and crafts stuff sitting around her. "What's all this?" He asked, reaching down and picking up an old picture of them from way back in the day. She was holding up her wrist where a new bracelet was hanging and Nate was looking all proud. He looked down to her wrist, seeing the same bracelet and just smirked. "Taking a trip down memory lane without me? How rude!" He said, laughing and one-arm hugging her. "You look like you're feeling better." Apparently he just wanted to talk a lot around her. Seeing her had made him really playful, and that was something he loved about his best friend. She made him feel like a little kid again, and like it was okay. Looking threw the pictures in front of her it really made her start to miss how things used to be before they got famous. She didn’t regret getting famous or anything and at points it did seem like they were spending more time together but they were both just busy all the time. But the thing that she had that Emma didn’t was understanding. When Nate wanted to vent because he had a long stressful day Madison could honestly say that she knew how he felt and make him feel better because of it. She knew that Emma couldn’t do that because Emma would never know what it was like to be rushed and pulled around that much. Plus the fact that after camp Madison would be going back to the same place that Nate was going to and Emma would be going back to where she lived and Nate wouldn’t really see her any more. Even though it was bad to think that it made Madison feel better because she knew that she was more on Nate’s playing field. They were so perfect for each other and she had to make Nate see that, she had to make Nate realize that relationships were supposed to be full of fun times and love and stuff like that. Not fighting, trying to change people and questioning if you should be with that person every 5 seconds. Madison didn’t care either way, she loved being around Nate and even if they never dated she would never want to give him up. He was the glue that held her together and she couldn’t really imagine loosing him. They wrote songs together, they just laid on the floor cause they were tired together, they basically did everything together. Madison really couldn’t imagine loosing that. It would be like loosing the other half of her heart, she wouldn’t be able to survive with out it and the same went for him. She wouldn’t be able to survive with out Nate by her side.
Madison looked up as she heard the door open. She was going to stand up to hug Nate but she felt her self get tackled and she rolled across the ground with him hugging him just as tight back. ”Whoa Hello Mr. Best friend.” It took her a second to catch her breath after that but when she did she leaned down and licked his cheek and stuck her tongue out at him. She used to do that when they were little. ”MINE HA!” She giggled and rolled back over so she was back in the middle of the pictures. She watched him pick one up and she messed with the old bracelet on her wrist. ”It’s not my fault your slow poke butt took to long to get down here. I was to anxious to skip down memory lane. Ill make sure to wait for you next time.” She spoke with a small laugh. To be honest she loved to pull out the pictures of when they were little and care free. When the biggest worry they had was if they were going to get cooties and what was for lunch. She missed that a lot and she wished that she could go back in time. But instead she had to settle with the videos and pictures that they had. They had been best friends for a long time; she was hoping that it would stay that way. She shuffled some of the pictures around and closed her eyes a bit. It was like a movie was playing in her head and she never wanted it to stop.
When he said that she was feeling better she bit her lip a little and nodded. ”Yeah I feel great. Especially now that my BFFL is here.” It was kind of a lie because she still felt like crap but she was good at making her self look like she was feeling better. She was a bit better though so it wasn’t all a lie. She had found her self feeling better when ever she did something that she knew Nate wouldn’t like. She had started smoking pot, she started it when she was doing chemo and had done it a few times after that but she wasn’t addicted. It just made her feel better. She was stopping though, she didn’t see a need to do it any more and she knew Nate would be mad or disappointed if he found out. Plus she was supposed to be the normal one of his friends, or at least as normal as a slightly crazy sharpie addict could be. ”Song time.” She jumped up and literally dragged him towards the Piano. The floors had just been waxed so everything was extremely slippery. She sat on the piano bench and placed her fingers on the keys. ”I wrote it in the hospital. And I wanted you to be the first to hear it and tell me what you think.” She valued Nate’s opinion more then any one else’s, heck she even valued it more then her own opinion some times. She started to play and Sing. She truly loved this song and even if he didn’t like it the song still meant a lot to her because it was true for her, things were only going to get harder before they got better but once they got better they would be amazing. She stopped when the song was over and looked up at Nate with her big bright shiny blue eyes. She really hoped that he liked it.

I don't know where I'd be without you here with me
life with you makes perfect sense you're my best friend --------------------- He said, laughing and just smiling at her. She was so silly and could always make him laugh, and that was something he adored about having her as a best friend. They had been friends since they were really young. Ever since she moved to LA at the age of like... 10. Or whenever it was. It had been so long that he didn't really remember. It just made him smile that they had gotten famous around the same time. They had toured together and their friendship had only grown throughout the years. She was even friends with his brothers, and when they first came to camp together, Nate knew that they'd always be in each other's lives, no matter what role they played. She took the picture back from him and he started laughing again. Whatever. She was a goober, but he loved her. He picked up another picture and she commented on him being slow. He rolled his eyes. "Listen here, I overslept this morning. And you know I have to make sure my sugar levels are good before classes." He said, smiling at her. She had diabetes as well, so he knew that she would know what he was talking about. "And it's not my fault that Shane knocked my alarm off this morning and set me half an hour behind my regular schedule. Blame him, not me." He said, winking and still looking around at some of the old pictures. It was funny how these pictures basically told the story of their lives. From when he had been diagnosed with diabetes, to when he had helped her figure out she was hypoglycemic, even through the present trauma that was cancer. She was his best friend and these pictures only served to make them remember how close they really were. Every picture made him realize that he would never live without her... it just wasn't possible. Madison in his life just straight up made sense. He just smiled. "BFFL? Best friend for life?" He asked, smiling. He wasn't really all that up on internet lingo and all that stuff, but he was a pretty good guesser. Then all of a sudden Madison said song time! and got up and basically dragged him towards the piano. He stood up and followed her, not wanting to sit on the bench with her if she was playing a song, simply because he wanted her to have free reign over the keys. She had written it in the hospital? Hmmm. He nodded. "Then play for me, Maddiecakes." He said, laughing. He hadn't called her that since they were like.... 12. She sang and played and her voice filled the room. That was another thing he loved about her. She had an absolutely beautiful voice. No wonder his best friend was famous. She hit the last chord on the song and stopped singing and looked up at him. A huge smile was on his face. "That was absolutely amazing, Maddie." He said, smiling at her. "It's very inspirational. I like it a lot." He said, putting his arms around her shoulders and hugging her from behind. He let her go and took a seat next to her on the bench. "Apparently you're not the only one that's been writing lately." He said, laughing. He took a deep breath and played the first chord of the song. "I started writing this song when I first got diagnosed with diabetes, but I finished it the night you told me you had cancer." He played a few more chords, not singing yet. "I had all these thoughts running through my head that I was going to lose you, and I had to remind myself that you'd be fine. So I finished the song." He played one more chord. "So, while it's about me, it's also about you, and about anyone else that goes through the things we have, or even things worse than we'll ever experience. I named it a Little Bit Longer." He said, smiling and finally starting to play the song. As he sang, a tear appeared in his eye, but it was on the side she couldn't see. When he was done, he wiped it quickly and smiled, satisfied with his song. He turned to her, his eyes looking at hers. It was a serious time, for sure.
